In October 1998, the NICHD was involved in an NIH Consensus Development Conference on traumatic brain injuries (TBI), injuries from vehicular incidents, falls, acts of violence, and sports injuries that may result in lifelong impairment of an individual's physical, cognitive, and/or psychosocial functioning. This 320-page scientific report describes the conference and the topics discussed, including effective rehabilitation measures and areas that deserve further investigation.
